Have you ever seen a chocolate turkey?

I can't believe it's been 2 weeks since I posted something!
Yikes--my creative juices are drying up over here.
***
Every year my momma and I make these cute little turkeys to adorn our Thanksgiving table.
Super cheap and easy.
Just cut out the shapes for the head, beak, little red dangle thingy {forgot what it's called}, and the feet. You'll also need some googily eyes and some mesh for the body. Oh and some yarn. And candy.

Put the head together like the picture, then fill your mesh full of your favorite candy, glue the feet on the bottom, and tie it with a ribbon. Voila! You have your centerpiece.

Gobble gobble!

Suhplies!!!

I made these fun little surprise cookies from my new favorite baking site Picky Palate
[click on the link for the recipe]
They were sooo easy and equally delicious. Although the chocolate chip cookie part was a little dry so I think I'll use my own recipe for that part. Other than that, it was great!
You will make instant friends with these bad boys, I promise.

Texas Sheet Cake

I made this delicious dessert this week as a test round for a friends birthday next week.  I was worried because I didn't know how we would ever get rid of all of them before I had to make them again.  Well... needless to say, with the help of friends, we were able to clear the large pan in only 2 days.  Another thing that I did to some of them was put some birthday sprinkles to see if it would turn out.  They were delicious still but I would recommend that if you want to out sprinkles on, do it immediately after you ice the cake because once it dries, the sprinkles won't stick! I hope you enjoy these yummy treats!

Texas Sheet Cake:
Ingredients:

Cake:
1 cup butter
1 cup water
4 tablespoons cocoa
2 cups sugar
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon baking soda

Frosting:
1/2 cup butter
4 tablespoons cocoa
6 tablespoons milk
1 pound powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla

In sauce pan, melt butter and then whisk in water and cocoa. Once well incorporated pour into mixing bowl. Add sugar, flour and salt. Mix well. Then beat in eggs, sour cream and baking soda. Grease and flour a 10X15 Jelly Roll pan.  Pour batter into pan.  Bake at 350 for 30 minutes.
For the frosting, in a sauce pan melt butter. Add  cocoa and milk, bring to a boil. Then remove from heat and add vanilla and powdered sugar. Frost over warm cake.

Printables

Something I love a lot is PRINTABLES!!!!!!
This lil cutie can be found here.
The best part? IT'S FREE!!!!!!!!!!!
As you can see I am super excited about all of this because OF MY EXCESSIVE USE OF CAPITAL LETTERS AND !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But really, printables are so fun because I am not a graphic designer and I love it when people design stuff that I can have access to if I just press print.
What I'm thinking with these printables is making them into centerpieces for Thanksgiving dinner?
What say ye, mother?
HAPPY PRINTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ornament Remodeled

Here is another simple Christmas idea.  I bought plain brown ornaments and gold glitter glue and made this:

As you can see, my husband and I just did a swirly pattern and just hung them to dry on a clothes hanger.  All of the ornaments came out looking great and the glue stuck perfectly.  You could also send someone a sweet Christmas message like my husband did on one of his ornaments to encourage me to finish a big assignment for school.  Have fun choosing colors and designs!   (Sorry about the photography skills...)

Did it!

Hobby Lobby was having a killer sale on Saturday so Carrie and I ran over there and got some goodies to make the lima bean wreath!

Seriously, so easy!
I just bought a plastic/foamy wreath thing [forgot what it's actually called] and spray painted it red.
Then just glued the lima beans right on it with hot glue [I was going to paint the beans red, but I like the look of the white on red].
Then I found this cute ribbon to hang it with! Can't wait to change the ribbon for each holiday!
But I'm going to enjoy this little piece of Christmas for as long as I can [because my roommates are banning me from putting anything else Christmas-y up for at least another week!] Ba hum bug.

Changing of the Guard

It's sort of a sad day here in apartment 10.
Fall is leaving and winter is COMING!
But that means new winter crafts which I hope will be equally as fun.
I officially changed the wreath on my front door last night.
Here's my cute fall wreath, right before her 6 month retirement:

[ignore the mess in the background...haha whoops should've noticed that earlier]

I got the idea for this here and made it with my mom and sister in law this summer. I love the colors we used! Great for fall and spring.
Tomorrow I'm going to reveal my new wreath that Carrie and I made yesterday.
Are you excited? Cuz I'm excited. And I'm excited that you're excited that I'm excited.

Lima Bean-y

Found this idea here.
I love this! So so easy and it looks very clean and classy.
All you do is glue lima beans [they also had the idea of acorns?-I'm sure you could use whatever nut, bean you wanted] onto a foam wreath pattern, then paint the heck outta that thing!
You can use spray paint, craft paint, etc.
The cool part is that you can paint it different colors with the changing seasons.
Red for Valentines or Christmas, green for St. Patricks Day. You get the picture.
I can't wait to try this! Maybe this weekend?

Lovetheday

I didn't have to spend 5 minutes on this website to figure out that I was in love with it.
Lovetheday  is run by a graphic designer/party thrower extraordinare who is full of amazing ideas and lots and lots and lots of customizable party "stuff" on her etsy page. I am totally in love and will blame my procrastination on the fact that I'm going to be getting lost on her page for the next 2 hours.
Count on it!

Restaurant Style Salsa

This recipe is so easy, inexpensive, and delicious!  I just made it for a little Mexican dinner for a friend's birthday celebration and it was definitely a winner.

        * 2 -14 ounce cans diced tomatoes
        * 2 cans diced tomatoes with green chilies (I used Rotel - Mild but you can get Med. or Hot)
        * ½ onion, chopped
        * ½ teaspoon sugar
        * ½ teaspoon salt
        * ½ teaspoon cumin
        * ¼ cup cilantro ( few sprigs, leave out, or put in extra...it's salsa, you can change it to your liking)
        * 2 tablespoons lime juice

Place all ingredients in a blender or food processor and pulse until desired consistency.  Chill for an hour or so before serving.

*If you want a stronger salsa, you can throw in a Jalapeno pepper or a clove of garlic.

Enjoy!

SpoOoOoOky Dinner

My mom is officially the coolest grandma ever.
My niece and nephew moved about 1.43 miles away from my parents this summer and she has really grown into her grandma role. I think she was born to be a grandma!
The other night she put on a spooky dinner and I thought it was the cutest thing I've ever seen.
I can't wait to start this tradition with my babes....in many, many years.
If you click on the name each entrĂ©e, it will take you to allrecipes.com, where they have lots of other cute ideas too!

Vomit/Boogers....aka guacamole

Googily eyes and gummy worms in jello [pretty self-explanatory]

Happy Halloweenie eating!

Famous Henry Wheat Bread

Hi everyone!  So, I told my husband that I would be the mud-blood to let this recipe be known.  See, it has run through his family for quite and while and I have never been to his family's house or any of his siblings homes without being offered some of this delicious homemade bread. The first time my husband and I made this together his dad tried to give us instructions over the phone: "just add three glubs of oil..."  Well, that wasn't working out for us too well so here is the actual recipe.

Homemade Wheat Bread

Mix:
5 cups hot tap water
1 cup white flour
1-4 cups wheat flour
1/2 cup oil (I use canola)
3 tablespoons of yeast
1/2 cup of honey or sugar (I prefer honey)
Let sit for 10 minutes after mixing.
Add:
1/2 cup gluten (the best deal is in the food storage section at the grocery store)
1 1/2 Tbsp salt
8-12 cups wheat flour
Mix 10 minutes and let rise 10 minutes
Mix and put into greased pans (I usually have to use 4 or 5 bread pans) My husband says to make sure and "spank" the dough before you put it into the pan.  Let rise 15-20 minutes.
Bake at 375 for 30 minutes.

* we just use a stable mixer with the dough hook the whole time.

After you take the bread out of the oven, immediately transfer the loaves to a cooling rack, or if you don't have one you can use a dish towel.  Otherwise the bread will "sweat" in the pans and you will end up with nice soggy bread.  Yum Yum!  Makes the best PB&J sandwich.

Don't Tell Anthro!

I wonder if we could make this?
I am absolutely in love with it, but not so in love with the $50 price tag.
And that's on sale!
Eek!

Where my kids at?

Carrie, take notes.
In 5 years we're making a remix when we have a few backup dancers [aka, babes]

What's in a name?

So you're probably asking yourself why we named our blog "Liberty's Lime."
You wish you could've been there when we were deciding this, trust me.
We tried everything and anything from combining our names into Warrie, Chitney, yadda yadda.
Then we came up with Liberty (a midwest town we were both raised in).
So then we tried to find another L word to go with it.
Liberty's Lemon? Too sour.
 Liberty's Lust? Yikes.
Liberty's Luck? That's dumb.
Liberty's Legs? We're both short and that really doesn't make any sense.
So Liberty's Lime it is!
--
Carrie and I are trying to expand our level of craftiness...be it with recipes, decorating ideas, baby names, funny stories. That is the purpose of this blog....just a place to 'store' and combine our ideas.
SO! Idea numero one-o.
MUSTACHES. MOUSTACHES? MUSTASH? I don't know how to spell it, so we'll just call them staches.
STACHES are all the rage right now it seems. And since a certain Elder can't dress up for Halloween this year, we decided to help him out a little.
Project 1

It's simple, and cheap.
All you need is:
construction paper, cardstock, cardboard, whatever
hot glue
bamboo sticks

Basically we just googled 'moustaches' and got some pretty creepy awesome ideas, traced them onto the construction paper, cut them out, and hot glued the stick to the back.
A great craft ideas for little kids,
and obviously big kids as well.

Our New Blog

Hey everybody! Welcome to our new blog.  I just thought I would post quickly about how excited we are for this new blog and we have a lot of ideas floating around that we can't wait to share with you!  The other night we got together and did a fun craft so I will let you wonder for a while what it might be and we will post about it soon!  Happy October!
